My computer background is weird and i can't change it?

My old laptop is Windows ME. Today, when i turned on my laptop. It comes up with my normal background. But, when the desktop icons appear, the background changes to a solid color, teal in my case. I tried changing the background by right clicking, properties, background and pick the one i want and hit OK. But, it is still the same solid color background. I tried restarting, same thing. What can I do?

Go onto the internet and COPY and PASTE a pic from IMAGES onto PAINT

then click FILE and SET AS BACKGROUND

go to properties and then go to appearance...then change it to whatever color u want.

sounds like a wallpaper is overlaying the background.  It's been a bit but I think it's called "theme(s)" and is also on under properties.  If you find it select "none" or "modified." That should give remove the overlay. It has been a long time so I'm not sure this is right.  Good Luck

Spyware infections, definitely.

Probably a trojan as well, try using trojan-remover:

perform a scan on each of them, when the scan is done, restart your computer, then you won't have the virus no more,and you will be able to remove the desktop wallpaper.
