My computer can no longer find a wireless connection....How do I fix this?

I have two computers in my house one has a wireless router the other has a wireless connection to the router, but now all of the sudden the computer with the wireless connection can't find anywhere to connect to. How can I fix this?

  1. First step is let Windows repair it. If that doesn't work reboot and try again. Restart the router, too, that often helps a lot.

    Second step is retrace your steps, what did you do that changed the settings.

    Third is contact your ISP and ask for help.


  2. unplug the modem - wait a minute - plug it back in.

    unplug the router - wait a minute - plug it back in.

    wait a minute.

    try again to see if the computer sees the router.

    reboot the computer.

    try again.

  3. Try disconnecting the modem and reboot.

    If that doesnt work, go to control panel- internet settings - connections - set up connections.

    There should be a (!) icon next to your connection if not performing properly.  Click on it and run connection wizard. (for windows 98-NT anyway, im not familiar w/ Vista)

  4. If your computer can't find the network to link to it may be your wireless router. See if the direct connection works (Network provider may be down). If so try rebooting your wireless router and see if there is a signal to connect to with yout USB key for the wireless connection.
