My laptop connects to my wireless with local and internet access. It will also run AOL Instant messenger. I can talk to people on AOL, but when I try to open a web page it says server cannot be found. Also, none of the automatic updates, like for windows defender and HP, will work. What's wrong, and is there a way to fix it?

  1. Open a command line window

Start-> Run (Type cmd and hit enter)

This will open a command line window. Run the following command

    nslookup www.cnn.com

If you see messages like timeout, cannot find address then you dont have proper DNS servers.

Call your iSP and tell them that their freaking DNS servers are down and you are unable to get any name service lookups and you are paying them for free.

Best of Luck.. I am assuming this is the most likely problem from your description.
