1. if u hav windows xp cd then u dont need to reinstall it

just use d REPAIR utility from Windows xp cd

    and everythng will b fine

  2. Reinstalling windows a not a bad idea but if its just for the file then copy the file from another computer or windows XP cd to the Windows\System32 folder.

But if you are unable to access windows then use Mini-PE XT and copy the file from internet/network/usb-drive/cd/floppy. You can download MiniPE-XT here in my website ( I was hard for me find in google):

And if you are familiar with command prompts then use other boot disks or windows XP's CD itself. And if you are using windows 2000 then the recovery mode may just do it automatically.

Forgot to mention, if you can access windows then go to Start>Run and type

    sfc /scannow

    thats sfc<space>scannow

Its system file checker and you will need WIndows XP CD.

  3. If u r having the Operating System CD given along with your system, You can boot the system using the CD, goto Repair mode and copy the file ntoskernal.exe from CD to HardDisk.

  4. wipe out the computer's hard drive and start fresh. once you start getting error messages, that's about all you can do to fix it.
