I have Windows XP. I keep getting a blue screen with technical info:

"STOP: 0x00000024 (0x001902FE,OxF8A7180c,OxF8A71508,OxF84B...

Ntfs.sys - Address F84B8167 base at F84AB000, Datestamp 48025be5."

Nothing works to fix it. I can't even get into safe mode or system restore.

If I bring my computer to Geek Squad, will they be able to transfer files from my hard drive to a new computer?

  1. Yes they will be able to transfer your files. 1: you have a floopy disk or file memory card already stored in your computer. the geek squad can simply remove the memory card into a diffrent computer if you wish. this is a common problom in computers.. your computer is either old or has to many viruses or junk files stored on it.

be carful of what you download onto your computer because most files on the internet that you download either have a

trojan virus or just simply wipe out your computer.

but yes if you take it to the geek squad they will simply remove the floopy or remove your memory chip from your computer and transfer the data to a new one.

i hope i helped your computer situation.

  2. Short answer: yes.

    Longer answer...

It is possible to copy your data off your drive, repair your system, and restore your data.  Probably cheaper than a new computer.

You didn't mention if this is a laptop or desktop.  Very easy with desktop.  Remove drive, put in external enclosure, hook up to another computer and copy data.  Then put back in desktop and reinstall system.

If you have an independent computer repair shop that is reputable, it will most probably be cheaper than Geek Squad.

  3. Try using your windows disks to repair your computer. You probably don't need a new computer. In the worse case situation, try reformatting your computer. You will lose your data but you will be able to use your computer.

If it is problem with the hardware of your computer, it is likely that they will be able to take the hard drive out of your computer and get it into another computer.

If it is a problem with something else besides the hard drive, you will be able to recover your data.

  4. Take your hard disk to another computer and apply date recovery software. You can download this software from www.recovermyfiles.com

  5. To Answer Your Question: Yes!

If You have a recovery CD try that, Read it very carefully! Make sure that it doesnt Format

    OR

Buy a 3.5" drive enclosure (Or 2.5" If its a laptop) on Amazon And Install Your Hard Drive In To It, Take It To A Friends House And Transfer Your Data Onto CD Or DVD.

  6. When you start up your PC, does the hard drive run? If so, then they  may be able to save the data, If it starts, but grinds and makes noises that aren't normal, they may not be able to.

An NTFS error is usually one with the formatting of the hard drive -- so, so the geek squad may be able to fix it and save your PC.
