I have a samsung YP-U2J mp3. I think it's cuz I've been charging it from the outlet as of late, but both my laptop and my computer can't recognize my mp3. My mp3 has a screen to show its progress and when I try to charge it on my computer or laptop it always says MTP BROKEN. Can my MTP be fixed or something?

  1. well you could try re installing your program which you install when you brought the mp3 player (it usually comes in a disc with the mp3 when you buy it) and try using it on a Friends computer to find out if its your computer. Also look for dents and scratches on it, you might of dropped it on accident or something ... and i don't think its you're outlet if you are talking about usb 2.0 something a rather because my mp3 works with it

  2. Are you using Windows Media Player 11?

    Symptoms:

The first time the device is connected to the PC after installing WMP11, the device is recognized and music syncs correctly

When attempting to use the device again, Found New Hardware bubble appears and then flashes between several messages including MTP Connected, Don't Disconnect, MTP Device found, MTP Device may not work properly, or There was a problem during installation.

Device may constantly appear and disappear in Device Manager or appear with an exclamation point indicating an error.

Device may not appear in My Computer

Uninstalling WMP11 and using WMP10 corrects the issue

Using the device on another PC or laptop works flawlessly

There is a known issue with WMP11 and many MTP devices by various manufacturers. This is not specific to Samsung but Microsoft recommends a driver or firmware upgrade from the manufacturer to correct the problem.  If neither is available, the user is instructed to roll back to WMP10.

Please verify the firmware version currently on your MP3 player (Menu > Settings > System > About). US Firmware Version 1.136 is the current version (as of 2/28/07) posted on Samsung.com.  If you are using an earlier version, you should download the current one.  Even If you're running the current version 1.136 or there is a newer version available in the Download Center, you are strongly advised to continue with the instructions below for Updating the firmware AND Formatting the Data area.

IMPORTANT:  Failure to format the data area as indicated in Step 7 below will result in unresolved issues.  You must Format the Data area which will cause you to lose all data on the device.

    To Update Firmware:

Download the YP-U2J Updater Utility from the Download Center (Firmware Tab)

Unzip the file and run Setup.exe to install

After the installation is complete, press and hold down the play button on the device while connecting the device to the PC. (If done correctly you will see a window appear on your computer for PLAYER RECOVERY DEVICE CLASS). If this does not appear, try resetting the unit while connecting to the PC

A Windows pop-up screen will appear indicating [Install player recovery device class]. (Select automatically for the installation option) After installation this window will disappear.

Click the updater program icon on your desktop or click Start > Programs > Samsung YP-U2J Updater

Continue holding the play button until the "Found New Hardware" bubble appears.

Check the box near Format Data Area and click Start.

    Once complete, click Close

Disconnect the YP-U2J and reconnect it as usual.

The device should now appear in both My Computer and in Windows Media Player.
