  1. Quick answer = Your OS or operating system.

Long answer = You need both OS and Hardware to be able to use a 64bit operating system. Processor is the main part that you need to be a 64bit capable to be able to use a 64bit OS. For AMD look for processors that has 64 in its label like AMD Turion 64 or AMD Athlon X2 64.

  2. First of all, you need to have a computer proccessor that can support an x64 Operating System. If you have that, then all you need to do is get and installation CD for the x64 OS that you want to upgrade to.

Now for the method. Unfortunately, there is no direct upgrade from x32>x64, so you will have to do a fresh installation of your OS. You will need to first uninstall your current x32 Operating System. Next, you will need to use the installation CD for the x64 OS. Then you just need to install it.

    Hope that helps.
