My computer has a virus. PLEASE HELP ME!?

omg this is annoying me so much! i have a laptop, windows xp. and recently i had antivirus 2008 but i deleted it somehow. although i can still feel it lurking around my computer somewhere. now, i have many pop ups on internet explorer, even when i'm not using IE. and on firefox it does not load certain pages. i've downloaded some adware and spyware removers but they all don't work. PLEASE HELP ME! this sucks. oh and also, sometimes the pop ups get so hectic that my start menu and my desktop icons disappear and all i have is my background...

Search your computer for "XPA.exe"

Delete the file.

Download spybot search and destroy and scan your PC. This should help you get rid of that ad and spyware.
