I know that I will eventially take it in, but would this cause my computer to lose its sound? It is completely mute and I can't figure it out. All connections are good and all settings are correct. Any thoughts?

  1. It can do, depending on the virus, but unlikely. I haven't really heard of a virus that only kills the sound

To check if your sound is working just, do this:

At the bottom left of the screen there should be a little volume button in the taskbar, right click it, and go to audio properties. A new window will pop up.

In this new window make sure nothing is muted and everything is set at atleast half way in volume.

    That should give you sound.

Also, just download a free anti-virus to remove the virus.

Some good ones are (to get these go to google and type "download free version of (insert anti-virus name)")

    Avast free edition

    AVG free

There are more, but they've escaped my memory atm

    Hope this helps

  7. There are many free anti-virus on the web

Avast Home edition is free for personal use.

You must register in order to get auto update.

Yesterday, my free anti-virus caught a trojan virus.

To ensure that the virus caught is not a false positive, I upload it to virus total web site to check.

    http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/c3558...

To my surprise, all the big names in Anti-virus industry cannot detect the trojan. The one that detect the trojan are mainly the free version.

I would suggest that you get Avast. It is free for personal use.

Avast boot scan in Windows safe mode is the most effective way to get rid of

stubborn trojans and viruses that keep coming back to haunt you.

These trojan and viruses hide themselves in system restore folder and many anti-virus programs cannot get rid of them. So whenever, you restart your PC,

the viruses are restore back by WIndows.

Avast boot scan help to get rid of them in the system restore folders and ensure your system are clean.

from modifying it behind your back.  It can lock the hosts file and

prevent spywares from hijacking your home page.

  8. Go here for help. It's free step by step help. They help me over a year ago remove an infection off the desktop that my brother and sister share.

  9. It doesn't cost anything to get rid of a virus.  Just download Trend Micro AV from:

    http://www.trendmicro.com/download/

You probably want to download and run Anti-Spyware too.  You get 30 days trial before having to 'buy' anything and then its only $20 if you wait long enough into the trial to where they drop the price (which they will)

As for the sound issue..... Viruses and Spyware can do all kinds of things to your computer and this problem may or may not be related.
