My computer has been making loud noises. It gets real loud and I'm afraid it might crash.

I opened up the back and cleaned the fans that were there. It was real dusty. I thought that might have been the reason why it was making noise because I read about other responses here. When I turned it on again it still made the loud noise. It's not a grinding noise but sort of the noise as if any second it's going to crash but then it goes quiet. The computer hasn't been operating slowly. It's actually normal. The noise that it makes me doubt it because I'm afraid it'll explode. When you turn on the computer, it's normal. As soon you try starting an application or going on the internet it makes the loud noise. It sort of builds up to it. Getting louder every second until it reached maximum then it goes silent. Any help would be appreciated because I was thinking of taking it into a shop but thought maybe it was something I could do at home. Thanks in advance!

  1. Either is a Fan or your hard drive.

Try listening for which fan it is if it not any Fan then try listening to your Hard Drive

Don't forget the fan inside your powersupply

  2. First of all, it won't explode. It does sound as if a fan is going bad, which could heat up and cause the power supply to shut down. Very carefully touch a ballpoint pen plastic tip (refill extracted) to the fans to determine which one is failing. You'll feel it.

I agree with Allen and Jim

  3. One of your fans is about to quit completely.  You should run the computer with the cover off and listen for which fan it is.  Replacement is easy.
