My computer has is frozen with just one picture.

Question

a couple months ago i tried to put a image from the internet to my background. i didn't work and the back ground was just a color. i tried to change it and it wouldn't let me change the image. now that image is on my screen and that's the only thing on there. no taskbar or nothing. i can't use it now. what should i do?

i think what you described happened to me. it sounds like you have tried to modify/ a virus has deleted/corrupted the file uxtheme.dll. you can try to repair windows using your original installation disk, or, you may have to completely reinstall windows. to save your files i suggest installing windows on a new hard drive on the same computer, booting from that hard drive then copying all the files off the old one, then format the old one.

Turn off your computer completely then turn it back on and press F8 then go to safe mode and see if everything comes on normally. If it does, run a scan with your antivirus. If you can't get it to work then you can always recover it you don't have any important file.

Can you pres Ctrl+Alt+Del?  If you can, go to Task Manager and end all processes exept explorer, system, system idle process, winlogon.  That should free some memory so you can find the picture you downloaded and delete it.  I would run an antivirus program afterword.
