My computer is behaving strangely.. what can be the prob and how do i fix it?

behaving strangely as in it sometimes shuts down without me doing so ..

refuses to start. i have scanned the full system using norton antivirus auto enabled, and it has not been able to detect any virus.

what do i do ?

  2. Most likely this is an overheating situation. Itunes, RealPlayer, Windows Media player, etc. require a lot of processing power to decompress and decode music files, which can cause the system to get hot.

  3. Have you tried system restore?Under systems tools,backdate it to just before the problems started,it may help.If not you can reverse the system restore feature.

  4. My first guess would be the processor (CPU) fan is dead. Has it been making a noise for a while before it started showing this problem?

    It refuses to restart because it is still too hot. If it continues to run for weeks, the fan is intermittent, also very common.

    If you don't know how to get to the fan to see if it has stopped then you probably won't want to try to fix it. A new fan is $5-$15 but labor could be $35.
