Question:

My computer is connected to the Internet with a strong signal, but the Internet still doesn't work?

I have a wireless connection and the other computers still get Internet, so it isn't a router issue. I've tried everything I know how to do, including setting up a wired connection to the router and establishing a new wireless connection, but nothing is working. Please offer any insights you might have.

  1. My HP running Vista flaked out last December.

I deleted the connection and made a new one.

Then I re-booted just because windows likes it.

    It has worked ever since.

    Try a brand new connection.

  2. Do you run Zone Alarm? letely that has the nasty habit of blocking your internet. if you are diasble it. Also, i ahd this problem once and am not sure what changed my TCP/IP settings but they were changed (little brother?)  so i reset them back to defaults and whadda ya know, it worked. also makeing a new connection may work also. Make sure if youare using IE (ugh, hatteee it. use firefox) thet you are not working offline.

There are bout 3 million things taht could be wrong. jsut keep trying different things and you may stumble accross somethin.

    Good luck!

  3. Let the cry's of "Chage joor firewall d00d" begin.

This may be a firewall issue. In this case it actually may be. Check port 80.

    Check your proxy settings.

    Check you DHCP leasing.

Drop and renew your PUBLIC IP

    Check MAC address filtering

Turn off the firewall entirely and see if that helps.

check to see if you have some type of content blocker in place.

What is the error message? isd it "server not found"

When you said other computers can connect, can they do so wirelessly? if not check your encryption keys.

Can you talk to the router itself? at 192.168.whatever.itis ?

can you ping google from the console?

    how about 74.125.19.147 (also google...)

if you can hit the second but not the first, you have a DNS problem.

Do you have an internal DNS service that might be conflicting?

can you connect with a different browser? (firefox, opera)

Is your machine set to try to use dialup in any way?

Have you cursed at it properly?

    How about threatening it?

    I'm tapped.
