I was trying to show my friend a video called 4 girls and a fingerpaint an as soon as i hit play like 793 viruses got on my computer. Then like 10 things popped up and wouldn't close. Now it is completely infected with viruses and we cannot use the computer's administrator. The control panel on the administrator's account will not show. Is there any way I can restore my computer back to its basic windows xp without a disk.

  1. Most likely your going to need the disk and a legit XP key.  Why dont you have one?  It should of came with the puter when you bought it!

You can try to do a system restore, but... most of the time this doesnt work or messes things up.

Your best start is to read to this forum -

One important thing is the fact that you should completely update the Operating System and ALL of the patches.  If your machine is patched for the vulnerability on the HD, then YOU cannot get infected.  It is the more proactive approach (patching your machine, keeping your software updated, using the most current firmware and drivers).  AV is ALWAYS reactive!

  2. No, you'll need a restore disk or a restore partition on your hard drive.  Your computer may have a hidden partition that will restore your PC.  Watch for any "press key (fill in the blank) to restore your system".  Your final option is to grab someone with moderate computer proficiency and have them sort through it.  They will likely become very frustrated and suggest a system wipe.

Once one virus or piece of spyware gets in 100s more tend to come with it.

    Welcome to Windows.

  3. No. You will need the disk because you will need to format. You definitely have a virus. You might try to restore to an earlier date but that would just be a temporary fix.

  4. If you were able to post your question, then you are able to get onto the internet.

Download the free version of Superantispyware.  I use this program and will resolve your problem as this software finds nasty viruses and spyware and best of all does not conflict with your own antivirus.  http://www.superantispyware.com  Update and run and in depth scan.  Free you must update daily on a manual basis or purchase and get auto. updates.
