i am trying to connect my video camera to my computer but its not reading my usb connection? what could be wrong? thx

im on windows vista and my camera is a sony digital video camera and it uses mini dv tapes.

  1. try using another usb cable.maybe its damaged resulting to no connection from your camera.


  2. Make sure your camera is compatible with Vista by going to the Sony website.

    If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….

    Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder.

  3. That's because you need to connect with an iLink or firewire cable!! You also need a firewire port on your PC. Check with Sony support for Vista compatibility with your camcorder. Follow the link below>>>>>>>>

  4. must be USB 2.0 maybe (look if ur computer has USB 2.0)
