My computer is really messed up. Does anyone know how to fix these problems:?

My laptop was given to me by my cousin.

If you can help me with a any of these please help....

List of problems:

1.) Doesn't read disc,cds,or dvds. So i think the disk drive is broken...

2.) It used to have wireless internet when my cousin had it, but now i have to plug in a network cable.

3.) The screen is messed up. There's a thin green line down the screen.

4.) I need to install windows xp/vista over again cause the malware, viruses, etc. I have the windows cd, but i doesn't read discs so i can't reinstall it...

I'm ok at computers, but this is beyond my level can someone plz help me?

Repair cost sounds like somewhere between $500-$700.  Unless it's a really fantastic laptop it's cheaper to buy a new one.

well you could try to buy a new 1 because that 1 is in pretty bad shape, LOL

You could try replacing the optical drive and using an USB Wi-Fi adapter, but there may be other bad components on the motherboard. Sounds like the LCD is going bad; the screen can also be replaced if it's intolerable, but at this point you might be spending more money than it's worth...

You could try a network installation of XP.
