Question:

My computer is really messed up?

There are a ton of things wrong with it. The first is the pop-ups, which only seem to come up when I'm on the internet. Also, my background has been changed to the white background that says "Active Desktop Recovery", but when I click restore my active desktop, it tells me that an error has occurred and I have to click "yes" or "no", but either way it does nothing. When I try to restore my system to an earlier date, none of the dates I've been on are highlighted and I can't click back to any dates to restore. When I try to change my desktop by right clicking and clicking properties, I'm missing the desktop and screensaver tabs.

What kind of virus is it and what's the best virus protection software to buy?

  1. I would recommend AVG anti virus software, which is free and available at free.avg.com.

I would also recommend running an antispyware program like adware, which you can get at http://lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_fr...

    Good luck!

  2. * Perform a Repair Installation

    * How do you perform a re installation of Windows, sometimes called a repair installation?

    * Insert your Windows Setup CD, and restart your computer.

When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows CD.

Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen. Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.

    * In the Windows Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement. Make sure that your current installation of Windows is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows.

    * Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.

*** This operation will fix your problem... and you won't lose all your personal files and programs you might have downloaded. ***

  3. Format and install windows.your computer is as good as dead.

  4. you need to reformat the computer as that virus or trojan has taken over your computer, after reformatting use avast 4.8, it's free and does a wonderful job.

  5. i agree with the others on here who have said that you need to reinstall windows with the installation cds that came along with the computer when you first bought the computer.

i have had a similar situation happen to me, and trust me when i say that no matter what you try to do to fix your computer it wont work...

you have to use the installation cds, which means you once you are finished you will have a "brand-new" computer. (all your data, etc will be lost......unless you have transferred your data onto usb, cds, etc [removable device])

    best of luck!

  6. Not necessarily a virus... spy-ware can do that too. I wouldn't be able to identify it by the description so far anyways.

norton internet security 2008 is the best i know of...

try to run some anti-spyware. (you can download Ad-aware SE from downloads.com if you want + it's free)
