I increased my RAM to 1GB, used the disk cleanup feature, have scanned for viruses, adware, spyware and deleted my Internet browsing history. Is it possible I have a rootkit or worm or something that isn't being detected? What else can I do?

  4. Please install and run Ccleaner. It removes unused and temporary files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster, more efficiently and giving you more hard disk space.

Make sure to check all the items in the "Windows and Applications" tab. and then run "Cleaner" It will take a few seconds to a few minutes depending on the amount of files.

Please run windows "Disk Deframentor" tool right after. It usually takes an hour or more depending on your disk drive size. Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Deframentor.

  5. Try Deframenting. Overtime your PC will have files scattered all over the hardrive so it takes longer for the computer to find them. Deframenting will put those files back in order and you computer will be able to access them faster, thus increasing performance.

Go to All Programs-->Accessories-->System Tools-->Disk Defragmenter.
