My computer is still infected with virus. i have norton anti virus also?

Question

When i installed windows xp to my laptop after formatting hard drives.

i installed symantec antivirus 10.1.5.5000 but i forget to update it and i put pen drive to my laptop and pen drive was infected with virus.i live update my antivirus. Now my anti virus is not detecting any virus and my laptop is slow also.

when i run scan it found no virus. i dont have any other anti virus or anti spyware installed on laptop. What should i do ?

uninstall symentac antivirus and install any other one? or should i format windows again?

formatting takes a big time ...can virus can be removed me without formatting laptop drives??????????

Anti virus never control spywares / molwares.So you need anti spyware and molware too.The best way is just download AVG 8 free version and install it.By AVG 8  you can solve this problem.If you are satisfied please do contact me to get AVG 8 paid version with more futures in cheap cost.Since i'm AVG reseller.

Yesterday, my free anti-virus caught a trojan virus.

To ensure that the virus caught is not a false positive, I upload it to virus total web site to check.

To my surprise, all the big names in Anti-virus industry cannot detect the trojan. The one that detect the trojan are mainly the free version.

I would suggest that you uninstall Norton and get Avast. It is free for personal use.

having norton updated MAY or MAY NOT have helped you...

Try malware bytes anti-malware  http://www.malwarebytes.org

Spybot Search and destroy  http://www.safer-networking.org

Also, make sure norton is un-instaleld or disabled, and try an online scan at http://www.eset.com/onlinescan  If you can't do the online scan, try downloading the 30 day free trial that will be available on that page.

i have AVAST! anti-virus and its great, it tells you when i file that you're downloading has a virus. (for example i was downloading Frostwire and it had i virus and AVAST! detected it and i was able to delete it. Download it for free and scan your computer, it'll take a couple hours but it will find the viruses.

If you're trying to remove spyware download the free trial of SUPERAntiSpyware i used it when i had spyware and it got rid of them.
