Question:

My computer is too far from the wireless router?

When I bring the computer physically closer to the wireless router, it works perfectly. Is there something I can buy that would amplify the output of the router, or strengthen my network card? Or is there another solution?

  1. why don't you keep your wireless router near to your computer

or you can buy some wireless PCI/USB Cards wich work well...

  2. There are several factors that will determine the signal strength of your router (a search on google/wikipedia provide some insight). More information would be needed to give an accurate analysis of what's going on.

First I'd suggest making sure your wireless card/antennae is properly connected. Then check for interference form other wireless networks and/or devices nearby.

Example; your wireless base station is sitting next to a microwave, and all the wifi networks in your neighborhood are on channel 2. Move the base station farther away from the microwave and choose a channel at the other end of the spectrum (say 9 or 10)

    Hope that helps.

  3. you can try buying a G or a N router. N is currently the best type router with the fastest speeds. and the farthest range.

  4. You can try making a homemade WiFi antennae. I haven't tried this, so I can't vouch for it, but it does seem simple.

  5. Another solution would to buy a new router.
