My computer isn't recognizing my ipod ?

Question

I've reinstalled iTunes, I've checked the USB port, I bought a new cable, and the computer doesn't recognize my iPod still. It charges and it plays but I can't upload new songs. What can I do? thanks

I was having the same problem and was searching in google for an answer, and your question came up. I Looked for an answer and found one myself by fiddling around with my 3rd Gen Nano and it suddenly worked! =P

1) Uninstall all iPod software, not iTunes.

2) Restart Computer

3) Go to Start -> Run -> and type msconfig in the run box

4) Click on the Services tab

5) Check the box down at the bottom, "Hide All Microsoft Services"

7) Once rebooted, go to C:\Program Files\ and delete the iPod directory

8) Reinstall the iPod software.

LASTLY:

Go to your ipod, connect it to your computer, go to your ipod settings/main_menu/ and scroll down to "reset menu" accept and it after about 5 seconds my IPOD connected to my computer automatically and the computer recognized it! Hope this works for you, later

if your using vista try rolling back to a date when it did work ok.

failing that update vista via windows update,
