My computer keeps coming up with pop up ads even when no programs are running?

It also keeps saying really annoying things like "you have just won a free ipod/laptop/wii" out of the speakers. I ran a thorough spy-ware scan (SUPERAntiSpyware) and Anti-virus scan (Avast) and it still didn't get rid of it. In fact, the pop ups kept coming up as I was doing the scans. Help please!

  1. Go to http://www.popup-remover.com

I use that program. It works very well.

Block pop-up ads and remove spyware .

  2. if you are running the latest version of internet explorer go tools-pop up blocker--- turn on po up blocker--- then set to medium

    also

download spybot and search and remove spyware

  3. Do a google search for zone alarm, download and install the free version. It is a free firewall that will stop the popups.

  4. I had the same problem. I used NoAdware and the popup ads were gone. You can download NoAdware from the link below.

  5. That sounds like some spyware or something. Or there may be a small virus/prank in a temp folder somewhere (hidden). Try cleaning ur cache and all that; use CCleaner for that (free)

  6. you've got some sort of trojan.

type the message it gives you into a search engine.

You'll probably need to search for a compromised dll and delete it.

  7. Try running a scan in safe mode and disconnect from the internet when you do.

To get into safe mode restart your computer when you see the reboot screen coming up push on F8 key a few times

  8. I had the exact same problem as you yesterday.  The popups would just appear and I would hear the same things as you.  It's because I was dumb enough to click on a trojan link on Yahoo answers.  This is what I did to get rid of it:

I have Mcafee anti-virus, Ad-aware SE.  I'm sure you can still use yours.  Make sure both programs have up to date software.  If you have a firewall on your anti-virus, set it to lockdown or block all internet activity.  From there I ran both programs.  I ran my ad-aware like 4 times until it says I don't have anymore harmful objects.  The most important thing is use your anti-virus and find out which folder your trojan is in. It will most likely detect it. Mine was in C:/programfiles/system32/   folder.  Once you find the specific file in the specific folder.  Press CNTRL-ALT-DELETE and open your process and find the active trojan (with the file name) that's running in your background and press end process.  Then make sure you go back to that folder and delete that program and any other files with that exact file name.  That should get rid of it.  I have no more popups or trojans.  I would do one more virus scan afterwards to make sure it's really gone though.  Good luck!!!

  9. First thing you have to do is to disable all start up programs to increase you computer performance and eliminate all running apps on the background. To do this use msconfig comand and access windows utility.

Use the link below to see how.

I am sure it will fix your problem, however, you will need to do full anti-virus scan in any case with any anti-virus software.
