My computer keeps telling me " STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure} "

I have WindowsXP. I recently was on the internet and I had so many tabs that I couldn't get Internet Explorer to close when I wanted. So, I was kind of angry and turned the power strip the computer was plugged into off. Then later when I turned the power strip on and turned the computer on, my computer didn't take me to where I can choose a user icon to click on and log on, but instead to a black screen with white text that gives me the choices of using these:

Safe Mode

Safe Mode with Networking

Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)

Start Windows Normally

The three different safe modes just bring up a black screen with a bunch of lines white text that start with:

multi( )disk( )rdisk( )partition( )

(in between each symbol is a figure that is a zero with a dot in the middle, but I don't know how to create that symbol)

It stays on this page for a long time.

Because it stays there for so long I haven't watched it. But I did check on it and happened to see that after I clicked on Safe Mode with Command Prompt it went to this black page with white text and then sometime later the computer restarted and skipped the page that gave me options to choose a Safe Mode or the other two choices and went to a blue page with white text that says:

STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure}

The registry cannot load the hive (file):

\SystemRoot\System32\Config\SOFTWARE

or its log or alternate.

It is corrupt, absent, or not writeable

Beginning dump of physical memory

Physical memory dump complete.

Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance.

I assume the other two Safe Modes do the same because I think I remember at least "Safe Mode" ending up on the same blue page. I don't remember if "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" also ended up on this blue page because I think I turned the computer off because it remained on the black page with the "multi()disk()..." lines for so long. It takes so long for them to go to the blue screen, though, that I haven't watched them to see if the also restart and do this or just go to the blue page.

If I click on "Start Windows Normally" it takes me to a light blue page where these come up:

CHDSK is veryfiying files (stage 1 of 3)

CHDSK is veryifying indexes (stage 2 of 3)

CHDSK is veryfifying security descriptions (stage 3 of 3)

After it does that it takes me back to the same blue page with white text that says the registry can't load that file.

Sorry about this being so long. I just want to be a precise as possible with my problem. I've read on some websites that I need to use a Recovery Console which will clear the software I have installed on the drive. I'd rather not have to do this and plust I'm unsure even how to do it. So, please advise me on what are some things I can do to get my computer working normally again. I would be thankful for any help you can give.

  2. Hello,

    Solution

1: Make sure your hard drive and Windows XP-compatible

2: the use of fault recovery console to confirm your hard drive or file system does not damage

      3: replace the hard drive

4: repair the damage of the registry files (recommended to visit http://www.Fix-pc-Master.com download perfectoptimizer

  3. Kudos for the details, and for 'fessing up to how you got in this predicament in the first place.

Unfortunately, that's all the good news I have for you.  Being angry and hitting the power switch got you a corrupted registry.  The registry contains information Windows needs to function.  So now Windows doesn't work.

I'm including a link to an article that has instructions for repairing the registry.  It is not for someone who isn't really a techie.  FYI, you don't have asr, so skip that part.

Barring being able to accomplish the above, you are looking at a reinstallation of your windows and applications.  If you want to save your data, you need to remove your hard drive, put it in an external enclosure, hook it up to another computer, and copy your data.  Or get a new hard drive for your reinstallation, and keep this one to install as a secondary or in an external enclosure later so you can get your data.

You're looking at a good amount of time and effort to get up and running again.

  4. This sounds like a big problem so you  may have no other choice...except for c**p Cleaner!!! seriously, go to www.ccleaner.com and download the software, it deletes useless files that are just taking up room and it Fixes the registry. Very VERY good device.

  5. its time to reinstall your Operating System,

  6. Could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. This  problem can be solved by uninstalling new softwares, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes .
