My computer makes a loud noise. It's like a blowing noise. I know that the main reason for this is the heat.?

What can I do to stop this, besides have the air on constantly. Also, it seems to be getting slower. I have deleted things, that helped a little, but what else can I do? I bought it in 2005 and its a Dell demention 3000.

  1. get a better fan for ur computer and also i'd try a program like ccleaner

  2. the noise is from the fan, come PCs just overheat Mainly Intel before dual core. Not much that you can do besides clean the dust and maybe get a better fan.

  3. My Dell is doing the exact same thing.  Somebody suggested that I try to clean the fan, but I can't figure out how, as it's protected by a handgrip on my model.

  4. If the sound is somewhat like a chattering noise then it could be that the power supply fan's bearing needs lubrication. Remove it from the power supply, Take it apart (first remove the round label in its center), oil the shaft, and then reassemble. (I've done this twice)

Or if you're moneybags then buy a new power supply from Dell.

  5. It could be a couple of things, primarily the fan that helps cool your computer down.  Secondly, it may be your hard drive... some hard drives tend to be fairly noisy when they have to work alot to get all the information from the drive.  Luckilly there are a couple of things you can do about this:

    1.  Clean up your hard drive, including defragmentation.  Get rid of all the "junk" files, temporary files that would be in all fo the temp folders, and many useless image files you never look at, and many other things you really don' tneed.

    2.  Defragment your drive, or drives.  You would be amazed at how hard your hard drive has to work to find a file that has been defragmented;  it starts looking at the first part of the file, then has to move to a completely different part of your drive to get another part of the file, and so on.

As for your fan, I found a nifty little program that is totally free that can help.  The program is called SpeedFan.  Once it is installed and configured (fairly easy to do), it can be used to actually slow down the fan just a bit to reduce the noise it makes.  Caution is necessary, however.  If you slow down the fan too much, you will end up doing more damage to the computer by not allowing it to cool down enough.

A simple reduction of 5% or so on the maximum speed might reduce the noise enough that it is not an issue.

You can download SpeedFan from Download.com, just do a search for "SpeedFan" without the quotes.

    Good luck!
