  1. I'm not exactly sure what your system specs are here.  But if you have only 448mb of RAM then that may be the first sign of trouble.  First of all, your RAM, at the very least, should be in increments of 128.  Much much older computers had RAM in incredments of like, 32 but any newer computer wouldn't have that.  What it sounds to me is either you have a weird configuration of memory (like a 256mb stick, a 128mb stick, and a 64mb stick) or one or more of your memory sticks has failed, at least partially.  So your first step should be to check that your RAM is working.  Additionally, it helps if your ram is the same size and type (Brand isn't so much important but if its PC-3200, then all sticks PC-3200)  RAM, in terms of overall performance of your computer, is very important and easily upgradeable.

Next order of business is the spyware/adware business.  The amount of programs your system can have simultaneously running on your system (and run them without slowdown) has everything to do with the amount of RAM you have, which further reiterates the above.  Spyware and adware are programs, which run in the background, and they can definitely bog down your system.  To help with that, there are actually several programs that you will likely need to run in order to get a good thorough cleaning.  I suggest taking a look at the article which I've linked in my sources.  Some people have essentially put together a toolkit for just such an occasion as the removal of malware.

The above two things should be the main causes for your computer performance issues, although there can be numerous little things that cause your computer to slow down here and there.  The condition of your hard drive, what kind of hard drive it is (ATA, SATA, eSATA, etc).  Overall, check your hardware and make sure there aren't any conflicts in the Device Manager (right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware tab > Device Manager.  If you see any exclamation points or other weird symbols than some of those conflicts can cause system slowdown as well.

Good luck!  (you'll certainly need it)

PS:  If you have anything less than 1gb of Ram, I suggest upgrading regardless.  It's a pretty significant performance increase from 1GB and up.

  2. Hi,

The more c**p you have on your computer the slower it will run.

try to do a disk defrag and delete all the temp.internet files off.

you could do a full reformat that would sure help.

  4. You need to update your RAM.

How you are getting only 448 Mb would probably be because you have 512Mb installed, but you are losing 64Mb to a graphics processor, leading me to suspect that you have an onboard graphics processor on your motherboard that shares your system memory.

The first thing I would do would be to replace your RAM with at least 2Gb of RAM from a reliable source, like Kingston or Crucial.

Next, buy a graphics card with its own onboard RAM.

Last, uninstall AVG and (temporarily) install Avira free from the link below.

Let it do a COMPLETE scan, which will probably take about an hour, though this varies depending on your system.

If it finds any viruses, remove them, then uninstall Avira and reinstall your AVG and run a full scan with that.

Also, download and run Spybot Search and Destroy from the second link below. It takes a while, but it is the best.

  5. the best thing to speed your pc would be more ram, 1gb is a good ammount for running xp smooth and fast, thats what i have on both my desktop and laptop and they run fine

  6. that happened to me a few weeks ago.

Do you often download things off the internet, only often you get viruses that aren't found by your computer?Like music and stuff

    hope I helped xx

  7. Its the ram, its not very much, 1gb + is the norm these days. Also check what is running on startup, to do this go to start menu, run, type in msconfig ( be careful you dont mess around with anything you dont know about on here ) go to startup tab and uncheck anything you dont want to start. DONOT uncheck essentials.

    Good luck
