My computer (which is a Windows 2000) has been having a lot of problems lately and we're working on getting a new one. Every few seconds, especially when we're using the internet, we get a notice window that says that our virtual memory minimum is too low, and that Windows is trying to increase it and that memory requests may be denied in the meantime. This is not only annoying because we have to constantly deal with all these notices but it sometimes also makes our internet windows close. How can we increase our virtual memory minimum or otherwise make this go away?

  1. Go to "tools" menu in Internet Explorer select "delete browsing history" then "delete all" I have found that this helps.

  2. Virtual Memory is the amount of free space in your hard disk which is used by the system: Even tweaking or increasing the MB your memory card is to handle as suggested by another answerer, you could still receive the same prompt if there is no sufficient free space in the hard disk for the virtual memory to reside. To create more free space:

    1. Uninstall applications installed in the last three months, but have not been used during the last month.

    3. Temporarily disable your System Restore. All your restore files will be flushed! Then Turn it back ON, tweak its settings by moving the slider to minimum.

    4. Install ATF-Cleaner.exe from http://www.atribune.org to clear all your Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, Recycle Bins, etc.

    5. Also, defrag the hard disk content to maximize the free space into contiguous area.

    To manually clear Firefox history,

    In Firefox, Tools>>Options>>Privacy

Under Private Data panel, click Settings button, then select which you would want to be cleared. Click OK.

Then click "Clear Now" button to clear all the history you chose.

Anyway, if you used ATF-Cleaner, you could also choose to clear the Firefox history [choose the second button after the Main button].

  3. This behavior may occur if you try to start any of the programs included in Office on a computer where the paging file value setting is too low.

To resolve this behavior, increase the size of the paging file. To do so, follow these steps as appropriate for your operating system.

    1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

    2. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.

    3. In the Performance pane, click Settings.

    4. In the Performance Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.

    5. In the Virtual memory pane, click Change.

    6. Change the Initial size value and the Maximum size value to a higher value, click Set, and then click OK.

    7. Click OK to close the Performance Options dialog box, and then click OK to close the System Properties dialog box.

  4. Get some more memory installed into your machine.  Get as much as you can afford..That should solve your problem concerning memory.
