During a thunderstorm last week my computer made a loud bang and messed up phone lines/modem & burnt out dsl filter. Now when i turn on computer it keeps flickering & wont connect to net, but my laptop does connect no problem.I contacted provider and said there is something wrong with my computer because even when the ethernet is disconnected it still gives my IP address

  1. Was your PC plugged in at the time of thunderstorm? If so it's probably burnt out some component in your PC.

  3. You have been very lucky your PC appears to have survived a lightning strike. I am assuming that the flickering is not due to a fault with the monitor, if you can connect your PC to a known good one to check.

If you can boot up then your processor, memory and hard drive, motherboard must have survived somehow. If the video card and network chips have been fried then the simplest to would be to buy a new video card and network card, plug these in and hopefully you should be fine.

I would also error check the hard drive in case that was affected as well

If you not happy to do all this take it to a local repairer to do the work for you

  4. I'm not sure why your computer is acting that way.
