My computer screen is on the fritz!!

Sometimes half the screen is black, huge white lines run up and down. Sometimes the screen even goes completely black. If I shake it or move it a little it goes back but only for a second. I've heard this happens when the monitor gets old, so what can I do? Do I have to buy a whole new monitor or is it fixable?

  1. May not be the monitor but be the graphics card on the motherboard inside the computer..... One way to see is to take the monitor to a friend's house and connect it to their computer... If it displays fine then you know it was the graphics card.... but if it still acting up, then time to get a new one.... they do go bad....

You could also look at your Device manager and see if your driver needs to be upgraded for your display.... Hold down the Windows key and tap the Pause/Break key to bring up your System Properties page... open up the Device tab and see if there are any yellow exclamation marks signifying that your drivers need updating... get the new driver from the manufacturer of your graphics card or the monitor manufacturer site.......
