I've been having some trouble with my computer, I've noticed that pop-ups were showing up more frequently and that it was becoming slower and slower. One day windows just stopped showing up and I can't see the icons nor the task bar not even my documents. I downloaded a spy ware protection from microsoft and it found 5 threats that have been removed but windows is still inactive.

  1. Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. I found it to be the best free scanner available for malware. Once you download it, do an update to get latest definitions and it will surely take care of the issue

You can download it from http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

    Good luck!

  2. You can try running a repair on the computer from the windows disk. Restart your computer and with your windows disk already in the cd rom drive to boot up from it and follow the directions for repair. If the repair does not work then sounds like a format and reinstall.

But if my computer was in your condition, i would probably start fresh and reinstall. However sure you probably have data you want to keep. If nothing is coming up on windows and you cannot do anything but see blank background, the only i think of for you to back up your info, is if you can get a 2nd hard drive, install it has your main hard drive, install windows on it. Then connect you old drive as slave and copy the info. Or see if someone else can do that for you with another computer.

  3. do an online scan with housecall.trendmicro.com
