My computer takes up to 5 minutes before it is fully operational.

It is now 6 years now and took a few repairs.

Computer specs: 128 of ram,

800 megahertz,

Intel Pentium 3 Processor

Should I buy a new computer or just change the cpu

  1. that is the worst computer ever, you would have to replace a h**l of alot for it to be any good, for example 128 ram lol? computers today have 2 gig ram, just buy new one and scrap old

dontl isten to them 2 ppl below lol, just upgrading the ram would be pretty pointless, it would have to be compatible with the motherboard which is probibly bad too so good look with that option

  2. to get a new fast life from your computer . make a CLEAN INSTALLATION OF WINDOWS.

my children computer is 700 MHZ and  8 years old and runs ok with 196 MB of memory

  3. it's a very slow processor but you could try upgrading the ram, probably cheaper than updgrading the cpu. find out if the ram is upgradable and put in at least 1Gb if possible. you should see a big improvement afterwards.

Deleting files will not make any difference though you could try reducing the number of programs that load at start up.

Computers don't necessarily need to have 2Gb of ram, though it's preferable if you play a lot of games.

Until recently I only had 256 meg RAM and my laptop took up to 5 minutes to load up, I added 1Gb to my ram and it now loads up in just seconds and is much faster all around.

Not everyone can afford the latest and best of everything, in some case upgrading parts instead of replacing the whole system is the only option.

  4. The main problem is your RAM is not enough any more. My computer is 10 years old and is running Windows XP fine on 191 of RAM with a  667 megahertz celeron processor. It sometimes is a little slow but it never takes longer than 2 minutes to fully load up. You may have to clear up some files. Once you clear up some memory and the old files your computer will be running faster.

  5. Couple easy fixes first...

Get, install and run c**p Cleaner..

This also has a registry cleaner which works quite well, just make sure you back up registry before removing (program will prompt you)

    Defrag your HDD

    Computers LOVE memory...

    Memory Configurator on left.

These are a couple low buck treatments tat may cure your blues.

A new computer is always nice (if you can afford it) :)

  6. Minimum requirement of Windows XP is 128 RAM and Pentium IV. Anything above will do.

Best option: Buy a new one.
