I installed a new video card, sound card, and USB 2.0 expansion card a few months months ago on my computer. I updated my Windows XP to Service Pack 2, and everything was running great. I recently moved, and after getting moved in, I set up my computer, and turned on my auto update for any new updates. The computer recieved a new update, and promptly rebooted itself. The update crashed my video card drivers, and corupted the OS. I ran my recovery CD, and after it was done, my computer started to boot up normally, but after it booted past BIOS check and was at the screen before Windows started, the computer stalled out. The computer will not run in safe mode, but the BIOS screen works.safe I can select choices on the safe mode select screen, but after you pick a selection, the computer freezes up again. Please any help will be greatly appreciated.

  1. Try a boot cd with some utilities on it. It can check the computer and may get it running.

  2. Wipe your hardrive and reinstall windows. That's what my girlfriend had to do. Same thing as you, I could go into BIOS and choose safe or normal mode or whatever. Good luck.
