I have a desktop about 4 years old. It has spent about 1 year in a closet and I have recently tried to clean it up to give to a friend. I connected everything, pressed the power button, and.... nothing. No fans, no lights, no noise. I checked the power cord, the outlet etc. Is there a way to determine if it is indeed my power supply. I have also opened the case to make sure that all cables were attached internally and that the dust level was not too high.

  4. Not necessarily a power supply problem yet.

Leave it plugged in for an hour or to. 1 year in the closet will kill the BIOS battery.

For detailed power supply test  I wrote a how to guide that won't fit in the space allotted here in Y/A. You can contact me anonymously through Yahoo Answers.

In most cases power supplies are a do it youself replacement with just a s***w driver and does not cost much.

  5. on some computers you have to hold the power button down about 10 seconds before it will start.

If it is the power supply, They are between $50-$400 or more - its depends on the wattage, If you're handy at all you can replace it yourself, but make sure you get the same type.

  6. are u like dreaming.. i mean. what are you on now!

  7. you may have disconnected the little cable connecting the power button to the motherboard...it should be a small black square with a think wire...it will be coming from the front of your computer, identify it and see if it is connected...
