I have a Emachines T6540 Media Center Edition 2005. When I turn it on, only the fans hum and my speakers turn on. Also the disc tray opens and closes like usual but it doesn't boot. It first happened to me 3 days before it completely stopped booting and I just waited a few hours and it booted as it usually does. The day it broke, I turned it on and I went to the mall for a few hours. When I came home my friend noticed that the only thing working on my computer was the fans so I turned it off and then turned it on the next day. It didn't work so I waited a few days but it did nothing. I am fairly good with computers so i checked the inside of my computer and it was very dusty, which i thought could be a problem. I also heard it could be the PSU or the motherboard causing the problem. Is there a way to fix my computer for free? If so how or whats the problem. If I have to pay money how much do you think it would be an give me a price range. I would be very grateful to whoever can fix my computer.

  1. Sounds like you have a nasty virus.

  2. it could be your hard drive or motherboard. you are having intermediate failure. i would borrow a friends hard drive from their desktop and test to see if it will boot. it if does then i would look into a new hard drive. if it doesn't it is possible your motherboard is bad. as long as you are getting power then you can rule out the psu.
