My computer won't play sound through my speakers.?

my computer will play through headphones fine. but when i plug my speakers into the computer, they don't work. my speakers will work on other devices, so its not them. checked hardware for the sound card, which is there. Who knows?!?!

Which sound card to you have and what speakers.

Since your headphones work in the same plug and the speakers work in another device there isn't anything hardware or software related at first look.  

My first thought is that you are not using the right jack on the sound card for the speakers, or that you are trying to plug in speakers for a more "advanced" system than your sound card is.
