Question:

My computer wont install anything.?

Recently my PC has been acting up. It wouldn't install anything and just kept coming up with an error message of all different kinds. Whether it be from trying to install Maple story (which worked on my other computers) or Windows live.

I rebooted my computer, wiped it clean with a windows XP Home CD.

And i thought this would fix the install problem.

But it is still happening and now i can't get an anti virus on my CLEAN AND EMPTY PC.

I have a feeling there is a set up problem. Cause i run the 'WLinstaller' and then it comes up with an error half way though. And if i run MSsetup. It does the same. Says some files are corrupt.

But i don't see how these files can be sorrupt if my PC has JUST been completely rebooted..?

Please help.

A 800quid PC sitting around not working is REALLY annoying :/

Many thanks

  1. RESTORE YOUR COMPUTER TO A PREVIOUS DATE .....

  2. Strange, i dealt with something similar to this a little while ago, it turned out to be nvidias 'nvidia network access manager' (active armor) tried disabling it at first but ended up having to uninstall it from add/remove programs. Could that be your problem? Look in add/remove programs for nvidias network access manager.

  3. The package for installation is corrupted or is been affected by a virus and could have been detected and deleted by your antivirus,

What i think you should do is, perform system restore to a previous date b4 the day you detected it,

if this fails, this should be your alternative

upgrade your machine window to a service pack.

  4. Use linux. Simple as that...

  5. hi mate

there may be a simple solution to this my mate, the initial problems were caused by either a virus or a installation issue, well whatever it was the best plan of action is to run either a recovery with your system recovery disk or reinstall windows with a genuine disk

now i know you said your previous attempt at reinstalling windows was cut short by a error, saying certain files are corrupt

try changing the optical drive on your p.c,many times when windows installations are cut short its not because the disk is corrupted but because the dvd drive is dirty,in that i mean the dvd lens needs cleaning, and you can buy a decent cd/dvd lens cleaner for next to nothing from most bargain stores for a quid

better still when i start to experience problems with my dvd/cd drives i simply replace them, they are so cheap its easier doing it that way

also before you insert the windows disk in any drive.especially before a installation its allways best to give the disk a good old polish with a proper cd/dvd cloth

also allways boot your windows from cd/dvd,never run the installation from your desktop, and when booting from cd/dvd you need to ensure your bios is set to cd-rom as its first boot device,to do this enter set up(press delete at boot) and then go to "advanced bios features",then change the boot order using the page up/page down keys, then remember to "save and exit setup" to save any changes to the cmos...your p.c will now restart !

however since your p.c is relatively new you should still have your p.c,s recovery disk, this is in essence a windows xp disk and will return your pc back to its "factory default"

some p.c,s however dont come with a recovery disk, they instead use a ghost image on a hidden partition on the hard drive, this is initiated by pressing a specific f key, this will be shown on your "p.o.s.t" screen or the black bios screen you see when you first turn on your p.c

unlike a normal windows installation a recovry disk is unique to your p.c and your p.c alone,if you try to install a recovery disk on anothe p.c all kinds of problems will occur, you have been warned !

finally during windows installation dont have any peripherals or hardware installed, just the keyboard, mouse and monitor, this will avoid any futher problems, however as soon as windows has installed succsesfully you can then start setting up and configuring your hardware ect

                any problems let me know

                        good luck mate !
