I highly doubt i bent the pen on inserting the cpu as it was running for just short of a year fine, now when i looked the pin was bent fully sideways and barely hanging on (I tried to fix it and it fell off, but that was predictable). There is a small burn on the plastic of the socket. What could have caused the pin to bend? and, is my motherboard going to be fine? I already ordered a new cpu. btw it was an asus m2n4 sli board w/ amd 5400

  1. If you had an AMD processor, those heat up much faster than Intel's do when the fan breaks.  Also, the AMD processors heat up much higher than Intel processors.  If your CPU fan broke, it could have created the burn spot and caused the pin to melt then cool back into a bent shape.

  2. The mobo should be okay.  Pins usually get bent while being installed; if it isn't moved in can't really get bent.

I've had them get bent when switching a mobo with the old style locking arm zif socket.  Sometimes the cpu sticks to the heatsink and gets damaged.
