My conditional permanent card expired in February. I did my Biometrics in February and am currently waiting for my case to be dealt with. It says on the phone that I should allow up to 180 days for my case to be looked at. I work full-time but I recently started a part-time job and they won't accept my expired green card along with a copy of my biometrics. What can I do to prove to them I am legally allowed to work. I need this job and don't want to lose it on a technicality. Any advice please?

  1. You cannot be hired and start work until you have the documentation that proves you are legally eligible to be hired.  An expired greed card does not cut it.  You have to wait until your new green card is issued -- if one is issued.  Even if you have permission to remain in the US while the application is processed, you do not necessarily have the authorization to work.  Your new prospective employer is following proper procedure.
