My connection is wireless, is it possible to change my IP address?

I am still having trouble changing my IP address. My connection is wireless and my laptop's window's is new and does not show me all the options suggested in answers I already received.

  1. Why?  With a wireless connection your computers IP will be a private IP on the LOCAL network. Changing that will not change the PUBLIC IP with which the internet identifies you!

    Only changes to the routers public IP address will change your public IP. To do that, you have to get your ISP to change it or unplug your modem/router for perhaps as much as 24 -48 hours! The time needed all depends on how often your ISP changes the DHCP pool.

    You can force a change on the private IP, but it will still be an IP in the same network range.  So which IP are you trying to change, one that the public sees or one on your local network?
