I changed laundry detergent a day or 2 before this started. Now when I put my contacts in I can barely stand having them in my eyes.

  1. When a doctor tells you nothing is wrong yet you are in pain or discomfort then the doctor isn't doing his/her job.

You may have a buildup on your lenses, and you are correct that your detergent may be part of the problem.

    Go to a different doctor.

By the way, I wore lenses for almost 20 years, but after having children, the amount of tears my eyes produced changed, and I could no longer wear my lenses for even a half a day.  I gave up and went back to glasses....and you know what?  I rarely even wear my glasses ANY more.  Strange.

  2. It's not your eyes it's the contacts, how long have you had them in? It always takes a few days to get use to them. but If they still hurt he needs to change the contacts to a diffrent brand! :)

  3. If you think it's your laundry detergent, change it back to what you were using and see if the problem goes away.  Perhaps you have an allergy.

I wore contacts for several years but eventually my eyes just couldn't take it anymore.  I dont think that my eyes stay moist enough for contacts.  They were always dry and bothering me.

Another thing is that you could have handled something that would irritate your eyes prior to putting your contacts in.  I touched a REALLY hot pepper once and even washed my hands 3 times before taking my contacts out and I still burned my eyes!  I couldn't use those contacts again; they had somehow soked in the hot pepper oil that did not wash off my hands.  They burned everytime I put them in!

Have you tried another set of contacts (that is if you have soft contacts)?  It could be that they have a small tear in them or something like that.  Good luck!
