Question:

My contacts or my eye?

So this morning, I attempted to put in a new pair of contacts. The left one was perfect, it didn't hurt at all, so I was all good. But then I attempted the right one. My right eye was like burning, so I took it out and put it in solution to let it rest. Just now, I tried to put them back in, and again, the left one was fine, but the right one was crappy. I assumed there was something wrong with the right one so I threw it away and tried another right one. IT BURNED TOO. What's wrong?

  1. Your eye can re-shape itself a little if you have ever noticed when you take your vcontacts out at night, your eye kind of has a dent where the contact was. Sometimes your eyes need like 5 minutes to adjust again. Mine burns too most of the time. Try pulling your upper eyelid off of your eyeball and holding it their for 10 seconds. Then gently let it down. Blink a few times. That usually works for me. If not, get a fresh contact, unless this one is fresh. Otherwise, see your optomolgst if problems persist. :D

  2. maybe you put in the wrong way. You could just just let it burn for a while, and the burning soon goes away

  3. before you try another one call your eye dr. sometimes they come defective and well sometimes you may have a scratch in your eye or something like that, call and ask them how to go about it. when i used to work w/ an eye dr we would check the contacts and if they were defective we would just give you new ones but your dr may charge so call first.

  4. Maybe it is just the way your right eye is reacting to it. . .try buying some lubricating drops to put in right after the contact. . .if the problem persists go to your optometrist immediately.

  5. Make sure it isn't flipped inside out. mine does that alot. make sure there isn't sand or dirt in the right side holder of your contact case. put it in your eye, then flood your eye with saline solution... look into a fan..and let it take its course..unless it hurts too bad.. just wear your glasses a day or two. thats what i do.

  6. It might be your eye, and not the contact lenses. Go to your optometrist and have him check it out.

  7. You may have scratched your cornea, or the contact may have been inside out. Or its possible that somehow there is something in your right eye. Don't throw out the contacts they are expensive!! Just try again tomorrow and if it persists call the eye doctor.

  8. You may have something on your eyeball like a piece of hair or something.  You probably should rinse your eye out and try again.

  9. Once upon a time, while wearing contacts, I ran into a dorm bathroom where someone had set off a teargas pen and openned a window.  The gas got in the tears behind the lenses and I spent 3 days flat on my back with my eyes covered while my corneas recovered.  The doctor said my eye looked like it had been mat burned, but that it healed very quickly and usually without damage, which was true.

I think you probably got something in your eye over night which very slightly damaged the eye surface and that damage is being irritated by the contact lens.  I would agree that having an exam is probably in order and leaving the lenses out for at least 24 hours is a minimum.

  10. Don't throw the lenses away. Hold onto them and see if you can get them replaced if they are truly defective. I suspect that you're having a problem with your eye. Use extra moisturizing drops on your eye and the lens before you try to put the lens in again. If it doesn't work, my guess is that you may have had something in your eye and the lens is aggravating it, or you may be having allergies.
