uhh...My mom bought this container and I was taking off the labels.

One label stated :

STATE OF CALIFORNIA PROP.65 WARNING

The exterior decoration used on this product contains lead, a chemical known to the state of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm.

What should I do??? How much harm can it do? I touched the container quite a few times. We stored food in it. Do I through it out????

  1. Yes. The best thing to do is get rid of it I dont think touching it will really hard you but you do not want to microwave anything in it nor do you want to put it in really warm water like a dishwasher or so and reuse it I saw a report on the news that the heat will draw the harmful chemicals out. throw it away

  2. You didn't say what type of container or what type of exterior decoration.   I guess its printed paper?  There can be trace amounts of lead in printing ink.

I would not worry about it.   Depending on the type of container you should be able to store food.

  3. They over react in california i read up on their standards tooo extreme i mean if you use it dont make it often use it if you have to not all the time just when you have no other choice it wont kill you but led is something you dont realy want in your system so ild keep it but dont over do it . its not dangerous its just not a good idea to over use it because in exteremely high amounts it can cause mental insanity.

  4. probably not a very good idea to store food in it, so i'd say throw it away.

touching is probably not that bad, as long as you don't l**k your fingers afterwards.

however, if you eating the stuff in it, i won't kill you or anything.

the damage comes from long term exposure to lead, and that can cause some serious problems with the nervous system.

  5. Chuck it!  Lead is dangerous!
