hi,my corsa is blowing out blue smoke really quite bad.it all started when i was driving and the engine management light came on and the car cut out. after i started it back up it was running unsmooth like every so often it was running low on petrol you could just feel a slight judder. then it cut out again and after i managed to start it it was like i was stamping on the accelerator. it was like i was letting the acclereator on and off quickly so it was a very jerky drive back home. the person who i bought it off claims to be a mechanic(but he thinks hes bin everything and nos everything) and he fiddled round with a few sensors the camshaft sensor and another one under the actualy car.not sure what it was or anything.. then after i started it back up it didnt change it. it was just smoking really badly with blue smoke then. can anyone help me as i cant use the car. its got a 1.4 16v engine, dont want to have to spend a bomb on it, any help is much apreciated. thanks

  1. my stepdads a mechanic so i kno a little about it i think it might be the cilinders which is very costly but i will ask my stepdad and get bac to u its probly not that big of a deal tho :)

  2. Most likely you have a blown head gasket, which will cost you a bunch to get fixed. I had a VW Passat that this happened to and it would've cost me $3000 to get fixed and that was through a buddy of mine that is a mechanic. Best bet for you is to get a few estimates and see how much it's going to cost you. If the car is old and you can't afford it, I would donate the car for a tax write off and get a newer used car or purchase some thing new. Good luck, I know major repairs suck and most of the time they come without warning. Hope it works out well.

  3. Blue smoke is related to an oil issue. Black smoke relates to petrol.

It should be black smoke coming out if the engine is running rough.

It is definately an engine management problem and needs to go on to a Code Reader for actual determination of the problem and hopefully correcting it - diagnosis & fixing should not cost an actual lot of money.

    Good luck. h

  4. Year & Mileage? EMS (Engine Management System) detected a "Major Problem" and was trying to shut down to save the engine! IE; Low Oil, Bad Oil Pump and No Pressure, Etc. By Restarting and Forcing the Engine to run.........With the Heavy Blue (Blue-White) smoke you're talking about it sounds like Rebuild or Replacement Time.

  5. burning oil...bad engine

  6. blue smoke means you're burning oil.

Check your oil level, if it dropped substantially since last time you checked it, you probably have burned the rings on one or more cylinders.
