The problem however is, she is not sure what she owes and to whom. She was hiding from he stepfather, and moved without a forward address and no longer gets any type of bills in the mail. She can only guess how much she owes but has no idea where to mail things or how much......to add even more she has not paid anything as far as credit cards or student loans in over a year....is there anything i can do to help her? i feel so bad...i know its her fault, but i understand why she was doing it.

How can we track this stuff down, i do know she can afford a lawyer.

  1. what your cousin needs to do is get a copy of her credit report from all three credit bureaus(trans union, equifax, and experian).

    Experian

    P. O. Box 9595 [see note], Allen, TX 75013-9595   Tel:  888-397-3742

    Equifax

    P. O. Box 740241, Atlanta, GA 30374-0241  Tel:  800-685-1111

    Trans Union

    P. O. Box 1000, Chester, PA 19022  Tel:  800-888-4213

Everyone can get 1 free copy of their credit report per year. You can use the information to contact each of the credit bureaus or try www.freecreditreport.com .  They will supply you will all the imformation on how much she owes her bill collectors and how to contact them. Sometimes it may be possible to make a payment arrangement with the  debtors.   It may be easier to just call a bankruptcy lawyer and let them do all the work for you, but it can be costly. good luck!!

  2. No need to hire a lawyer.  Your cousin needs to rent a PO box and then call all her creditors and tell them her new PO box.  That way, noone can track you down as easily.

Now, you may ask how can you get the creditor's contact info?  EASY.  You get a free credit report from each of the three credit bureaus annually.  Your cousin needs to go to www.annualcreditreport.com and fill out her info.  All the creditors' contact info should be on there and how much she owes etc.
