My husband and I are both a bit nervous about driving in Italy as I have heard that the Italians drive really fast. Also we do not speak any Italian and therefore will not understand the road signs. Can you avoid the fast roads ? We are not complete wimps but dont want any nasty shocks.

  1. pretty easy to get from malpensa to varese by car on the motorway, more complicated would be to use public transport.

No direct train but buses are available to Gallarate Train station. From here you'll be able to take the train to Varese's central station.

If you'll travel by car, you might find this useful

  2. It is true that Italians tend to slightly "ignore" the speed limits... Just keep to the right and drive at the speed you feel most confortable with and disregard the over-enthusiasts! Getting to Varese from Malpensa is very easy and pretty straightforward. I have found a map for you. Just type Malpensa in the box at the top, enter, and then type Varese and enter. It will mark the 2 locations. It is a short drive, only about an hour (I think ca. 40 kilometers) Check out this link:

Furthermore, that area is full of road signs for all the important locations, so it is really quite hard to get lost.

    Have a good trip!
