  1. Your cousin is "Out of Status" in is subject to arrest by ICE - Immigration and Custom Enforcement......if she is apprehended, she will be held in ICE detention centers.... which is not exactly the Hilton Hotel......then after a few weeks, she will be deported. Bail may not be applicable in her case since she will be considered a Flight Risk. She will be lucky IF they grant her Voluntary Departure....

Don't bother finding a job for her as she won't be granted a Work Permit and employers are wary these days about illegals.....

My 2 cents? She should leave and go back to NZ and re-apply for a H-1 visa.....

  2. The feds are on their ways to your house as you read this.

  3. She needs to return to New Zealand and apply for the proper visa.

  4. Her first mistake was over staying her visa. She will probably have to go back to New Zealand and reapply but it won't be easy because she broke the law by being here illegally.

  5. Why would she leave NZ for US? Wow! (I'm in NZ and I love it here).

Well, I would suggest following everyones' advice and going about it legally. Perhaps returning to NZ and applying for work visa in US first. I had a cousin who was engaged to a Hawaiian US citizen. They wanted to get married in Oahu. When she arrived in Honolulu, she was sent back to NZ and it was her wedding day. Because they thought she wanted a green card. So it sounds like US immigrations are extremely strict which is only right.

Perhaps ring immigrations (anonymously lol) for advice on how to rectify your cousins current status and return her to NZ? Sounds like your in a bad predicament, hope it works out for you both.

  6. She is now an illegal alien and you are proposing to involve yourself in the crime by harboring and aiding  a known criminal

  7. It is the responsibility of visa-holders to honor the terms of the visa.  There is a very strong chance that your cousin will be deported once the federal government discovers that her visa has expired.

  8. Tell her she needs to stay underground and work for cash as she cannot obtain a worker's permit. Babysitting children would be a good job for this.

The US is cracking down on what they call "ill-immigrants", nasty I know but they do mean business.

New Zealand is beautiful and better than the US, why not move back there?
