The history branch of the smithsonian in Washington DC is a pretty good place to start.

well if u go 2 NYC u can take him 2 The Museum of Natural History because they have amazing exsibites, hyde park the roosevelts lived there, carmel is a town that the war hero sybil ledington rode to warn that the british were coming,if ur in Virginia go to Monticello that was thomas jeffersons house, the university of virginia jefferson built it, if ur going 2 Washington DC go to the white house the prez lives there

Gettysburg and Jamestown are always good for historical purposes. Personally I love Cherokee NC. The indian reservations, the crafts and culture that is still alive. Amazing. Great outdoor theater too.
