Shes only 9 and personally I don't really think she should have a guinea pig. I told her she should feed it cabbage but she still doesn't and she doesn't even have a hide box in the cage! Or a chew toy. (I used to have a guinea pig so I know how to care for them)

What do I do? I don't want to be mean. But I want to help her take care of it. Oh and She lives far away and we only see each other about once a year. :(

  1. i have four guinea's at home and my oldest has a small patch missing behind both ears and the doc says its normal. now i do think you're right about a nine year old having a piggie (she shouldn't) but thats where her parents have to get involved and asume some of the responsibility for the care of the pet. good luck

  2. i have cousins like that who have and 2 guinea pigs and they hardly even remember that they have guinea pigs and never fed them so my grandpa is trying to convince them to give them to my

Tell you cousen you will buy them from her mabey

  3. Quietly speak to her mother, the animal is obviously not in proper living conditions

  4. The bald spot behind each ear is normal. ALL guinea pigs have this.

If talking to your cousin about the proper care of guinea pigs doesn't work, I would talk to your mum or your cousin's parents and explain in a very humble way that you're only wanting to help. Then go on to explain what the guinea pig needs in order to be happy and healthy.

Alternately, you could send an email and provide links to credible sources so they can read for themselves what they should do. Here are some links that will help:

Good for you for trying to make sure the animal is cared for properly!

  5. i also have 2 guinea pigs. they don't  have fur behind there ear or just a few fur.

  6. Talk to her parents and tell then how important it is.

  7. tell her parents how to take care of a guiniepig, then they probably tell her how to.
