My cpu usage is running from 0 to 5% and my computer is quite slow. How can I improve it. Thanks! ?

I see a lot of programs on the windows task manager I'd like to delete but which ones?

You probably don't have enough RAM, or you are running too many programs. Vista is quite the RAM hog so if you have it that might be your problem. (I have it too, and if I keep all the display settings and graphic options on high my comp runs slow with 2 or 3 programs open)

First off I would check to see if there are many programs running that you don't need. You can do this by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete and starting the task manager. From there you can see what programs are running and how much memory they are using. Be carefull though, only stop the programs which you are familiar with, as there are many background tasks that keep your pc running. If you shut one of those down your computer will encounter an error and most likely restart.

Another tip is to change what programs boot when you start your computer. You can find these by going to

START > ALL PROGRAMS > WINDOWS DEFENDER

Then you click on TOOLS in the Defender toolbar and then click Software Explorer.

The startup programs option is selected in Category list. Just click on the programs you see and decide if you want to disable them. This can keep you from using too much memory if you have too many programs always running.

If you have a Vista, try having a System Restore. I don't know what it does, but it changes your computer back to it's normal speed and health, AND all your saved stuff and installed programs are unchanged.

I'd back up all my stuff on cd's or dvd's & do a format..formatting ur computer every few months is a good idea anyways
