  1. Personally it sounds like a lose bottom bracket. Most bikes today have sealed bottom brackets and bearings so greasing isn't an option. If the bike is any type of bike you will need specialized tools to remove crank arms and bottom brackets as with most other components on the bike. My advice if you're not mechanically inclined  would be to take to your LBS and let them take a look.

  2. a good thing to do is always to do a tune-up

you probably will be needing to re-grease (with good grease) the bottom bracket parts, crank bolts.

often noises from the crank area can be mistaken for noises coming from the seat post or the pedals ( these two need light greasing too).

i'd use "phil wood bearing grease" or equivalent. ~ $7-10

  3. Most probably either a problem with the bearings in your pedals or bottom bracket.

For pedals, simply buy a new pair. If they were very expensive you could try disassembly and replacing/regreasing the bearings.

Same with the bottom bracket. As it's a new bike you might be fortunate to have a a newer bottom bracket that's cheap and easy to replace. I would advise taking it to the place you bought it (unless it's not a bikestore - Like Wallmart etc) and get them to service it.
