I just checked my recent credit score and saw that my score varies by over 70 points among the three different agencies. My "high" score puts me in a really good spot and my "low" score makes me on the borderline on having a higher risk profile. Which scores do lenders look at? All three? Do they average the scores?

  1. This is not that unusual and not all credit reporting agencies use the same formula or carry the same information. Your score will be the average of all 3 taken into account. I would be willing to bet your worst score is with Experian!

Be sure to look carefully at your 3 credit reports and challenge anything that is Incorrect or innacurate! Most lenders will look at all 3.

  2. Only mortgage companies merge credit scores all other banks and lending institutions have their own default bureau and that can change by State and even Zip codes.

It's not uncommon to have that type of spread between your score especially sine Experian now uses Vantage which scores from 501 to 990.

You have to understand all lenders do not report to all credit bureaus and all credit bureaus have their own way of calculating scores so a 70 point difference is not really that big a deal.

  3. actually they tend to check out your behind. :)

  4. They normally take the middle score
